Originally headquarters to Glasgow brewers Tennent Caledonian, the building was bought by Irish hotel chain Bewleys in 1999. The company hired architectural firm GM+AD, who also designed Bewleys Nottingham and Manchester branches, to renovate the building. WHERE IS IT?

In the city centre, halfway along Bath Street, in the adjacent block to the Sauchiehall multi-storey car park

Hiding in plain sight on Bath Street, the jaunty angles of the Marks Hotel’s windows give the odd impression of an upside down escalator, while the large, obtruding metal roof conjures to mind the “cow’s lick” hairstyle of the 1990s.
