GALLERY OF MODERN ART
WHERE IS IT? In the centre of Royal Exchange Square, just off Buchannan Street, a few yards from George Square.
The gallery is situated in a townhouse built for Tobacco Lord William Cunninghame in 1778, yet the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) is one of Glasgow’s newest exhibition spaces, opening in 1996.
In the past, it has served as a branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland, a library and the Royal Exchange. For the latter, it was renovated in the mid 19th Century by famous Glasgow architect David Hamilton. The gallery features themed exhibits all year round, as well as housing pieces by famous post-modern artists such as Andy Warhol and David Hockney, and Scottish artists such as John Bellany and Ken Currie. As well as an exhibition space, GoMA is also a learning centre, with regular classes, including a Saturday morning one for families, and free internet access.

Every Day (2013)

Every Day was an exhibition about sculpture from Glasgow. It brought together works by six Glasgow-based artists who all use sculpture, to varying degrees, in their practice. Works were selected for their use of everyday materials and their reference or resemblance to the familiar, common and recurring places and events that we inhabit during our daily routines. It was curated by Ben Harman, Curator of Contemporary Art (Glasgow Museums).
Niki de Saint Phalle: The Eric and Jean Cass Gift (2013)
This exhibition presented works by Niki de Saint-Phalle, as a gift from private collectors of Eric and Jean Cass through the Contemporary Art Society. In 1993, the artist gifted the Glasgow Museums with two works, The Great Devil and Altar to A Dead Cat, following a retrospective at McLellan Galleries. They were displayed alongside 14 works donated by Eric and Jean Cass. The works show the crossing of art and design, the links between object and performance.
